Combined Heat and Power Plant
Combined Heat and Power Plant
Mine named after A.F.Zasyadko is the first company of Ukraine that arrangement utilization of captured coal mine gas with methane content, and generation of electrical and heat energy herefrom. In Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHP) constructed for the costs and with the capacities of the staff of the Company, the most advanced utilization and co-generation technologies are realized. Twelve generating units with gas piston engines made by Austrian company GE Jenbacher, which is a main division of world-famous company General Electric for production of such equipment, provide total rated capacity of CHP at 36 MWh of power and 34 MWh of heat energy, that makes it biggest in this sense.
Coal gas degassed from wells and gobs is fed through four lines from two vacuum-pump stations (VPP). From VPP, gas is fed to mixing unit of CHP gas treatment plant, for the purpose to obtain from the output of the unit a uniform gas and air mixture with required concentration: allowed range- 25% to 40%, rated range- 30%. A substandard gas is fed into atmosphere through "stack". If increase of mixture concentration is required, a high concentration gas (93 — 98%) from surface degasification wells is admixed hereto.
Further, methane and air mixture (MAM) passes a range of successive processes: chilling, purification and heating with drying. Chilling of MAM is made to purify it and to separate moist in separating filters. Heating of MAM up to 40°С is made in heating units in order to reduce moisture of gas mixture. Obtaining of fuel gas for internal combustion engines (ICE) with parameters required, provides their normal operation.
Besides fuel gas, a high concentration gas is fed from surface degasification wells to CHPs in order to ignite a fuel mixture in ICE cylinders.
Treated fuel gas is fed to 12 ICE equipped with generators, each with the capacity of 3035 KWh. Power generated is fed to mine substation through 6.3 kV busses through reactors that provide limitation of short circuit current.
Heat utilized by operation of CHPs is used for process (gas heating) and domestic needs of CHP and industrial and domestic facilities of mine. In winter season, heat energy is also used to heat shafts. An excessive heat is supposed to be fed to municipal heat supply grid.
CHP is equipped with stat-of-the-art management and control devices, with application of computers and microcontrollers combined in informational networks. Initial information collection devices are installed, and automation devices of leading global manufacturer as ABB, DBT, Keuter, Klinger, Wegabar, Alleen Bradley and Rockwell Automation. Safety of CHP operation is controlled with electrical, gas, and fire systems. Ventilation and conditioning systems provide required conditions for operation of equipment and comfort for staff.
